Interesting Realization…….. Oh and a Halloween Treat

So as I sit here and try to think of something other than my book to write that you might be interested in reading. I’ve realized that I really do not like October. Yes as a whole. And yes that includes Halloween.

How is that you ask?

Well even though I love paranormal. I loathe scary. Which if you watch any amount of cable network programming there is nothing but scare the pants off you movies. Can’t do it—I’m way to visual. Okay so I can’t read it either—again with the visual mind games that I do to myself.

I used to love the Halloween parties, the dressing up, the taking my daughter trick or treating. But now I stay at home—so no dress up, no parties, no trick or treating. You don't have to think it, I'll say it - yes, I'm quite boring these days
:-)

So since it’s so close to Halloween and most of us are too old to go out and get goodies – I’m bringing them to you. And how fitting is it that it's a paranormal romance and one of my favorite series out there.

I made a few tweaks to what I put on Karin’s blog, but only because I thought of something better, hours after I hit submit – oh and some things had to be changed to protect the innocent. :-P

My Life As A Writer, is a 90,000 word, romantic comedy, where Laurie Kapkowski often finds herself waking up between a hot man and two other females. Oh, did I forget to mention: Trixie her Chihuahua, and Bella, her crazy cat, are allowed in bed.

By day she's a mild-mannered programming manager for a television shopping channel. Her world thrives on color and puzzles. Highlighting (color-coding) the hours that belong to her department and a 744 piece grid (actual hours in a 31 day month - puzzle) that must be changed multiple times, while people steal away pieces, and an over-abundance of arguments along the way. Yes-men have no place in Laurie’s life as she isn’t afraid to use no at any opportunity.

Her nights are filled with laugher and love as her adult daughter and husband keep her laughing, when she can hear them, that is, past the 5 barking dogs, or when she isn’t submerged in the fantasy world of her own making. If only she could figure out what her handsome husband, who is cooking dinner, and beautiful daughter, who is cleaning, mean when they say they want to be reincarnated as a writer?

This is 197 words so don’t tell me you can’t do better because I really suck at query’s. Come on let's see what ‘cha got. And we get to learn about each other - How cool, huh?!

My First Introduction to Sasha White…

I came across Sasha for the first time last year. I was staying home from Nationals and V sent me a link to an erotic writer doing a workshop and since this was the genre I was currently looking at, I of course wanted to read whatever I could about it. And guess who it was? Yep, it was none other than Sasha White. Fate, I tell you!!!

I, being the naïve (virgin, if you will) erotic writer, had only read books for a certain line (since that’s who I thought I wanted to target). I asked a question and very politely, she answered me.

So my question you ask? Do you start erotic’s with a love scene in the first chapter? (Or something close to that)

But I do remember that the reply I received (I’m paraphrasing here) was something about how she really disliked that everyone believes erotic romances are not romances but the four letter "P" word, on paper. There is still a plot, there has to be emotion and there has to be tension to make it believable, it’s just that the sex is hotter. Someone ask her again. Let’s see if I got it right…LOL

I of course felt like a fool (or rather - a total ass), to this multi-published author. But erotic’s are still not widely accepted within the romance community—partly because there are still people out there that believe they are written from scene one to the end with nothing but sex—just as my question implied.

Now, I know that was not her intention, it was my own self criticism that made me feel this way. Trust me Sasha is a sweetheart, and we have had many conversations since, but like me, is straight forward with her opinions—see why I love her!!!

Paraphrased or not, that statement has resonated with me ever since. And when you read her work, you’ll know she stands by those words.

Her characters are unique and believable, sexy as all get out, and the emotional bond within her world will tangle you up within the sheets, right along with her characters. Her characterization is what I believe pulls me into her work and keeps me coming back over and over for more.

I mean really…great sex and emotionally involved, isn’t that what every girl dreams of? ;-D
