Contest - The Accidental Demon Slayer (and last week's winner)

Okay, first things first. Last week's winner for Sleeping With Ward Cleaver is SB Jane, send me your snail mail addy at vickilanewrites at yahoo.com and I'll get it out to you.

Now, on to this week's contest. Angie Fox is an amazing paranormal author, who adds a funny twist. She also has a Biker Witch name generator on her site and mine is Hog Wild Harriet No Brakes. How fun is that?? :) Visit her site to find your own name, as well as to enter into a contest where your biker name may be in her next book.

Here's the backcover blurb:

It's never a good day when an ancient demon shows up on your toilet bowl . . .

For Lizzie Brown, that's just the beginning. Soon her hyperactive terrier starts talking, and her long-lost biker witch Grandma is hurling Smuckers jars filled with magic. Just when she thinks she's seen it all, Lizzie learns she's a demon slayer-and all hell is after her.

Of course, that's not the only thing after her. Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly handsome shape-shifting griffin needs Lizzie to slay a demon of his own. But how do you talk a girl you've never met into going straight to the underworld? Lie. And if that doesn't work, how dangerous could a little seduction be . . . ?

Love it, right!

Leave your comments through out the week to be entered and I'll post a winner on Friday. Yes, really on Friday this week.

Hi Vicki - thanks for spotlighting The Accidental Demon Slayer. That book was a kick to write.

If anyone has questions about the book, writing, or life as an author, feel free. I'll be stopping by all week.

Hey vicki, thanks for having Angie visit.

Question for Angie,

TADS is a riot! How did you create your world? Did you start with the premise and then build your character? or the other way around? In other worlds, how did you come up with such a fun idea?

Vicki, I already won this from Angie on another blog. I loved it!!!! I stayed up way toooo late to finish it because I didn't want to put it down.

Angie, will there be another book with these characters?

Hi Angie - Thanks for stopping by and my questions is, what is one of the things you didn't expect as a debut author? You notice I said one since there may be others.

Hi Cheryl, I'm glad you had such a great time with the book. To answer your question, I started with an idea of the kind of character I wanted to write.

I read a lot of paranormal and it always seems like the heroines are these natural, kick-butt types. And I love that. But I kept thinking what if someone just wants to be normal, and they have these powers?

The idea of an "accidental" demon slayer appealed to me and I took it from there. What if a straight-laced preschool teacher learns she's a demon slayer? And what if she has to learn on the job?

It was a kick to write, and I'm so glad it's gone over as well as it has.

Awwww...thanks, Jill! Plenty of authors have kept me up late, and I'm glad I could do the same thing for you. ;)

To answer your question, there will be another book with these characters. The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers will be coming out in April '09. In it, Lizzie decides she's going to learn everything about her new powers and "write the book" on demon slaying. Naturally, things don't quite go according to plan.

Good question, Vicki. There were a lot of things I didn't expect as a debut author, simply because this is all so new.

Probably the biggest thing is I didn't expect readers to be so funny. I get these emails and letters to Pirate, the dog, and some of them are just a riot. One reader sent a haiku about The Accidental Demon Slayer hitting the NY Times List. I have that taped to my computer. The fun, intellegent, downright creative reader response to the book has been completely unexpected, and a lot of fun.

Correction to what I told Jill above: The next Demon Slayer book is coming out in May '09. My editor told me this morning that they're pushing it back a month and making it the lead title for May.

But I'll be sure to give Vicki and ARC or two before the release, so maybe you can win a copy here. :)

Angie, I'm going to post your last comment in the other post as well in case some aren't reading both days.

Of course I'll do a giveaway with the ARC and then another one with the actual release for everyone else.

Sounds great. And, yes, if anyone has any more questions, I'm here! Please don't make me work this afternoon. This is much more fun. ;)
