I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post. I used to be so very good at post everyday during the week and now I'm doing good to get here once a month. So sorry about that and I'd like to say I'll be back to normal again, but yeah that's so not going to happen for the next few months. After that...well, let's just say I've got goals.
My stepdad's been quite ill and at one point we didn't think he'd still be with us. He had to have brain surgery where they removed what blood clots they could from his brain. It was touch and go for several days.
He's amazing in so many ways though. Were many of us would have lost the fight, he didn't. In fact, he worked hard and fought his way from ICU to a regular room and then to rehab. He's finally home after two more trips to the hospital and trust me this is making life much easier for him and my mom.
My stepdad will turn 87 in April. He's lived a life full of adventure and has always been an admiral man. It's just we're not ready to let go of him and thank goodness he's not ready to quite fighting.
Love you bunches Dad.
Vicki

Votes - Yours Are Needed
Science Guys brother has his motorcycle in a contest and he needs your vote. His is the first one, as #1.
Here's the picture
and you can click here to go to the site and vote. Yep, it's in Buffalo, NY.
Cycle Dude (yeah, wasn't sure what to call him), built this bike himself. He's been on the cover of a motorcycle magazine and is now in this contest. Besides, he's cool and when SG and I where visiting a few years ago he took us to this bike shop where the owner had wolves as pets. For real. One was pure white. It was all snowy outside and there she was. Beautiful.
So show him some love and please go vote.
Hugs,
Vicki

L's New Family Member
Let’s just say this has been a rollercoaster of a week. Some good, some bad, some in between.
But the highlight of my week has been the addition of a new family member.
Drum Roll Please….
May I introduce you to Bella…

Isn’t she beautiful, and yes, that is why her name is Bella.
HHB is actually who named her, and is in no way obsessed with Twilight, like Princess and I are – but the name fits don’t you think?
So Thank you to Aunt V who went with me to pick my Bella up after HHB called to let me know he found us a kitty (which by the way wasn't Bella...LOL) and covered my butt yesterday since I was too busy playing with new kitty to write a blog…Muahhhh V !!!
Bella comes to my family because we lost our cat, Polly -- of 14 years, on Monday. To say that I was upset, depressed and just miserable to be around, is an understatement.
HHB knows I’ve NEVER, not had a cat in my life. And it became his personal goal to remedy that. He’s the one that tracked down “Friends of Strays” (Which I recommend HIGHLY), filled out the paperwork and made sure all I had to do was pick out the right kitty for our family (God I love that man)!!!
The two days without a cat was the longest since I was probably four or five years old. Polly was an awesome cat, I saw her being born and had her ever since. She was also a black cat – which I have also always had. But seeing as Bella is gray or rather a blue, I’m breaking tradition, but I think my mojo will be just fine. ;-D
So those that guessed a girl – YAY!!!
I loved all the original names!
Don’t you just love her?!?!?!?!?

A New Family Member
Yep, I'm an aunt again. :) LKap has a new baby. Now I'm not going to spoil her fun and tell you about the baby. I'll let her do that.
But then...yeah, an aunt has bragging rights after that.
So, let's play a game. Until she (L) tells everyone, what do think, boy or girl? And the name, what would you name a boy or a girl. Needs to be unique and of course she may have already named the baby by now since I haven't talked to her since yesterday afternoon.
Smiles,
Vicki

Update on the House
The sellers have accepted our offer. WhooHoo!!! Now we have to wait for their bank to accept the offer and that could take weeks.
Have I ever mentioned I'm not so good at the waiting game? Yeah, not so much. I've already picked out the color paint I want for a couple of the rooms, where I'll place furniture and how my office will be.
I'm throwing out junk, packing up stuff to take to the Salvation Army, and looking around the house we're in now, knowing it'll take tons of boxes to move us. Which lies the other problem. Science Guy has decided to have packers pack us.
Sounds great, right?
Really it is great, BUT I have things I don't want packers to pack or move for that matter. I'm wanting to pack them up now. I can't do that yet. Since we have to wait on the bank to approve (their bank, not ours), then wait for them to set the closing date, it could be...six weeks before we move.
Needless to say all of this is not making my writing flow. I am writing, just not quite as much as I should be. So, tomorrow night, wait scratch that, I have a board meeting tomorrow night, so Tuesday night I'm back to the 'love ya honey, gotta go write' when I come home from work.
Next week Helen Scott Taylor will be here. I'm so excited! I can't wait to read her book.
How about you? How's your week going? Are you writing? Reading?

House Hunting
Science Guy and I thought we’d found the perfect house. We loved it. Love what the people had done to the house and even though the distance was longer for both of us work wise, we decided to put an offer on it.
Yeah, someone came in and made another offer at pretty much the same time and theirs was more than the asking price and cash. Guess who won.
Funny thing is I’m okay with it. A couple of days before we found out we weren’t getting the place I started having really bad feelings about it. Like scary bad, something horrible may happen to you in the house, feelings.
I figured I’d walk the house again and see if it was trying to tell me something and if they accepted our offer, we could always back out. Now I’m thinking who ever offered more was a guardian angel watching over me.
Today we looked at five, yep five houses. Most of them were yucky inside. The prior owners hadn’t taken very good care of their homes by any means. The neighborhoods were great, the outsides looked great, then we stepped inside, and it was like a different dimension.
However, we did find one that we both loved. It has everything we want and a bit more. The only room that needs updating is the kitchen. It’s in great shape, but I would (will if we get it) want to update it. The countertops and cabinets mostly.
The neighborhood is awesome. Beautiful and peaceful and yeah…I love it. Feels like a place we can easily call home.
So we’re putting in an offer and then the wait and see game begins. If you’ve read past post, you know I’m not so good with the wait thing.
In my head, I’m already planning what will be in the living room and what will be in the family room with the fireplace. I know I live in Florida, but I love a fireplace. Planning romantic candle lit moments around the Jacuzzi too. :)
Fingers crossed, but the realist in me says, if it doesn’t work out then it is the one for us and we’ll begin again. Or buy the one we’re currently renting with the lease option. I like it but it’s not quite as big as we’d like.
The one thing I’ve learned from this is I don’t like house hunting. The show on HGTV makes it look so much more fun then it is. Too many of the homes we’ve looked at in the past few months are not what they say or need tons of work or break your heart when you see kids stuff (lot’s of kids stuff) lying in the rooms.
What about you? Do you like house hunting? Would you rather stay where you are or would you like to move?

Mom's B-day Weekend
My mom's birthday weekend was a blast. We left on Friday for the seven hour drive. Yep, seven hours of riding in the car. Normally we fly, but this time there was stuff to take for the party and my son was going with us, so it made sense to drive. Remind me to check that made sense next time. :)

Friday night started the weekend with a small group of family, around 26 of us, at my sister's home. Drinks, appetizers, and dinner, were prepared and served by a chef who came to her house. How cool is that. They even did the clean up afterwards.
Saturday morning, Science Guy and I met my daughter and son-in-law for breakfast and to watch the waves. Although Ike was down by Texas, the storm surge still churned on the beach in Destin. I tried to capture the waves and how high they were, but this doesn't really do it justice. The Whales Tail is right on the beach and it's one of my favorite places to go have breakfast when we visit my family. Shortly after that there was a lunch and drinks at the beach club. SG and I didn't do that one. We drove around and looked at the water, did a little shopping, and then worked on the wish bowl for Saturday night.
So far it had been a great and busy weekend, seeing family I haven't' seen in years and in general enjoying the town. Then Saturday night rolls around. We're dressed and ready to go. Downstairs I see some of the family staying at the hotel. They asked if we want to follow them, but no, we're not quite ready to go yet. I had to get something from the car and take it back upstairs before we could leave.
What should have taken us all of twenty minutes to find the place, ended up taking over an hour. It's not like I don't know Destin, but when I asked for directions, well...let's just say they weren't exactly correct.
The first hour, the one that we missed, was where the staff walked around with drinks and appetizers for everyone while they mingled. So it wasn't to bad. Of course SG and I ordered drinks as soon as we arrived. After the hour of driving up and down Hwy 98, the margarita was a welcoming calm to the frazzled nerves.

Dinner was yummy and my sister had these hilarious sunglasses for everyone to wear. Afterwards we danced and danced, okay and danced some more.

Sunday morning was relaxing outside on the balcony overlooking the bay and then packing it all up to head home. After a stop at my mom's to pick up my son and short visit, we loaded my son's stuff in the car and hit the road to make the drive home.
Remember the seven hour drive? Yeah, well not so much on the way home. I was driving, we were all talking and I took a wrong exit. We hadn't paid attention on the way up and didn't realize there were two exits for this small town that would take us back to 19. We're driving and the road is beautiful. The hills were a welcomed sight for about ten minutes. That's when I realized we were not on the right road. I know what you're thinking, turn around and go back. Not so easy since there wasn't a place to turn around and on each side of the road was rather swampy. Finally we found a place, turned around, and headed back to the interstate. The seven hour drive turned into ten. Again, that's why I fly.
All in all the weekend was wonderful. Yes, the drive was long, but seeing family and friends was great and the my mom had the best time, being the queen for the weekend. Okay, so she's always the queen in our family, but this was an extra special queen time for her.
How about you? Do you drive for vacations?

Party Time is Almost Over
My mom's weekend b-day party is winding down. Last night was the big party, complete with the sit down dinner and dancing. I've got some great pics to post later. My sister bought everyone cool sunglasses. Science Guys were guitars.
We're heading home sometime today and although it's been great to see family I don't see often and friends I miss, it will be great to be home with our babies (the dogs).
Tomorrow begins the Monday check in and another contest will be up. Hope everyone has had a great weekend and for those in the path of Ike, my thoughts and prayers are still with you and your family.

Family, Parties, and Contest Winners - Pics to Follow
I’m having a wonderful time with my daughter and snl. It’s going to be very hard on Tuesday morning when I take them back to the airport. :(
Since they live in Arizona, we see each other once or twice a year and that’s just not enough when you’re as close as we are.
My actual b-day is Monday but they threw a party for me last night. It was so much fun. We did a murder mystery and everyone had a blast. Most came in costume according to their characters. I have to say that Holly and Les (character names) blew me away when they walked in the door. They came in as their characters and stayed that way until the very end. It was great. We laughed, ate, laughed more and just had a wonderful time.
I’ve got pictures to prove it and will post them later today or tomorrow.
The contest winner for this past week is none other than the fab Anne-Marie. I can’t wait for you to read this book. Since you’ve told me that you haven’t really read vampire books you are in for a major treat. JR Ward is definitely one of the best to begin with. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about the book. :)
Today Science Guy and I are taking the kids (they’re not actually kids but to me they probably always will be), to the beach for breakfast. Yummy place and it’s right on the beach. It’s a bit cool though but that’s okay. Jackets, food, beach sand, water hitting the edge, and of course a walk on said beach is in order.
Tomorrow is check in with your word count and a new contest.
So, what’s your weekend been like? Anything exciting or have you relaxed, getting yourself ready for the new workweek?

Family's Here So Today We Play
Hey everyone, just a quick note to let you know I won't be putting up a T13 this week. Since Melissa and Aaron just came in last night we'll be out playing today.
I'll post tomorrow but in the mean time I thought you might like to post in the comments three of your favorite things to do or places to go. All comments will be added to win the contest this week.
Hope everyone has a great day and yeah, it's weird to not be around my blog family and friends. :)
