Wednesday Fun - How's Your Vocabulary?

I thought this might be interesting considering most of us are writers and all of us are readers. Or at least we all should be. :)

Oh, and by the way, I didn't cheat. This is my actual score. Of course I did have to look up the words it says I am. :)

Check it out and leave a comment with your score and what it says about you. Remember all comments will be added for the Friday contest. In case you forgot, this week it's Linda Lael Miller’s book McKettrick’s Luck.

Now, for your vocabulary testing pleasure???

Your Vocabulary Score: A-

Congratulations on your multifarious vocabulary!

You must be quite an erudite person.

Writing Wishes and Plotting Dreams,
Vicki

I got an A. I too am an erudite with a multifarious vocabulary.

I'm trying to come up with fun ways for my middle schooler to increase his vocabulary. Any suggestions?

Patricia - Is your son competitive? If so, then you might do a contest with him to see who can learn the most words in a week. Or a word for the day that one day you get to pick the word and both learn it and the next he gets to pick the word.

My daughter teaches school I'll ask her what she thinks.

Bill - I knew you would be an A+ :) Oh, waving back at you :)

Yeah Jill!!!

Crystalg - there is nothing wrong with a B+ :)

Don't fret, Crystal, I got a B+ too. And I was an English teacher for years. :-)

That's why we have dictionaries. And why we keep learning.

I got an A! How did Bill get an A+? I'm pretty sure I got all of them right... Grrrr

You must've missed one, Erica. Maybe "peruse", which means read carefully ("per" in Latin means through, or thoroughly)? I hesitated on that one, since today it often means "scan" (read quickly - another quiz choice), as in perusing the newspaper. But I stuck with the root meaning, and I guess it paid off.

(Bummer that they don't show you see the answers!)

"Show you see"??

*Bill looks around for the supposedly erudite person who scored the A+*

Yes, Erica, I *do* retro-edit - and here you see an example that flubbed. I originally wrote, "let you see", and simplified it to "show", and tripped over my over verbal feet. Harummmph!

Oh, yeah, I forgot - Erica has other play dates this week and doesn't have much time for checking blogs (she's ignored mine for over a week - *Bill sobs quietly*), so she will probably never see any of these comments. Guess I could have just let my lapse slide, since she's not around to call attention to it...

I got an A. Peruse was the only one I wasn't sure about. My DH loves the reactions he gets from people when he tells them not to masticate in front of him.
